GRIFFIN GIVES FOUNDATION TO DONATE SERVICE DOG IN HONOR OF VETERANS’ DAY
Glassboro, New Jersey – November 7, 2016: The Griffin Gives Foundation announced today they will donate another service dog, to a local soldier in need, on Veterans’ Day. The service dog, named Dixie, will be the first dog presented through the Paws Healing Heroes Program.
The Paws Healing Heroes Program was established through The Griffin Gives Foundation by Glassboro native Mark Eberle, an Army Veteran who suffers from the affects of war as well. Mark’s mission is to raise money, through community events, in order to provide service dogs, primarily those in shelters, to Veterans in need. “My hope is to rescue dogs that need forever homes and have them determined eligible to enter a training program – enabling them to be certified to work with Veterans depending on the needs they have. Knowing that I am able to help and give back to fellow Veterans helps me as much as the dog and the Veteran in need” said Eberle. “In this case, Salfid Rescue needed to find a home for Dixie and with the assistance of the Star Dog Academy in Pitman, NJ the training quickly began and has been on-going for several months. I am looking forward to seeing Dixie and Nick help one another”.
Dixie, a 3 year old Labrador Retriever will be presented to Nicholas Rue a Marine Veteran from Pitman, New Jersey during a special ceremony on Friday, November 11th at 6:30pm at PB’s Diner and Tap Room, 500 Delsea Drive, Glassboro. The ceremony is in conjunction the diner providing free meals to Veterans on Veteran’s Day as a way of saying “Thank you for your Service”, an additional attribute started by Eberle.
Nicholas served in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to return home with a diagnosis of PTSD from the affects of his deployment. “I am honored to be a part of helping Nick reintegrate at home and assist him with the support from our first Paws Healing Heroes Service Dog. I appreciate the amount of effort which went into finding, training and getting to this point. I wish them a life of good health and healing” said Tracey Leinen, Executive Director, The Griffin Gives Foundation.
Since its inception, The Griffin Gives Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit foundation has been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. At its core, the foundation aims to provide support to veterans by creating memorable and unique opportunities to assist them before, during or after deployment.
